My friends and I have poker night once a week and we are currently in the habit of only playing NL hold em tourneys. We usually have at least 6 people, the most being 7. The buy in is $5 and each player gets 25 chips. We start the blinds out at 1/2. We would like to get each game done as fast as possible while not raising the blinds too fast. The last thing we tried was raising it one(2/4,3/6,4/8) each time someone got knocked out. What is the best way? A time progression or one like that? Thanks

Matt did you find something that worked on your home game as far as progressions??? Am attempting the same thing. What do you do w/players who are knocked out early; who are not necessarily the best of sports and bored w/the game in progress? Secondly what to do w/ player or wants to prolong the agony despite higher progressions?

It has been working well, last week we had a couple long games, but it went fine. I won 3 out of 4 tourneys last week. Only had 5 people there, usually 6 or 7. We keep stats and everything, we call it the Brownstown Poker Tour. Back in high school, we had the BPA (Brownstown Pool-Players Association) we had supercards(like wrestling PPVs), championship belts and everything. The memories. back to poker, we buyin $5 and get 25 tournament chips in return, this may seem small, but when you want to get in a lot of games in a night, its a pretty good #. we start the blinds at 1/2, no antes. When someone gets knocked out, we bump it one. 2/4,3/6,4/8,etc. It has worked well.

The players who get knocked out early are pretty good sports, just sit there and shoot the shit, or go outside and smoke. I get on the computer and check scores sometimes. everyone stays involved though, cuz the people who are out love looking at everyones hand. everyone is good about it though, so we havent had any problems.

and if your last question is about games dragging on, sometimes the last 2 people might make a deal if it is taking so long. split the pot or split it proportionally to how big thier stack is or whatever.
